DaDa Poem Start

The Returner

I was gone for a bit, but now I have returned. I left because it was frustrating talking to empty walls. I realize that most of the class was shrugging the blogging off, but I had fun for a bit. I got help on my first project and got to meet a very cool person who gave me an awesome weekend. But then the companionship of the blogs faded into many unanswered questions and musings. Where did we go? I know there are only six or so of us that write regularly, maybe we should award ourselves in some way? A game perhaps or a running story to be passed along? How about we create a poem in the spirit of DaDa? I will start, you reader, add on to it however you want. Numbers, pictures, non-sensical words.

I will create this in my next post. Beware

Evolution of an Idea

From the beginning, I could tell that my collab project would be shooting the moon. My partner and I are both overly complicated people and we enjoy creating things that have minute levels of intricate details. So we got together that first day and went over our respective toolboxes so that we might see what each person had to bring to the table. After his confusion to the project and what is was supposed to be about, (he had been told different things then us), I went to Rezza’s (sp) class and met with him to clarify the language of the assignment. After getting that straightened out, both my partner and I discovered we both loved Steampunk, so we decided what the hell and started a Steampunk design.

Initially I wanted a machine that was overly complicated but would accomplish a simple task, such as a 5 foot tall machine with cranks and steam that would just be a cigarette lighter. But Tohny had a better idea and formulated what about a machine that was set up to fail on purpose, creating an unrealized anticipation in the viewer. Well it was all Westward HO! From that part and we set about designing the machine. It took two weeks to get all of the material together and inventorying what was on hand, then I set about getting all the ducks in a row.

We had motors to salvage, lights to rewire and basic schematics to weed through to even see if our idea was culpable. We met every other day for ten minutes to keep each other abreast on developments and changes. It wasn’t until this week that I finally began serious work on a working prototype and I promised it to Tohny by Monday so he could have a week to himself to workout any glitches in the system. After that we intend to tear the mockup down and start ornamenting everything in final preparation. So far we are on track.

As for my final, I gave you most of the details of my thought process, (The white shark fins heading up the deadfall river on Moscow Mountain). The design on it should be very basic and the only serious factor I have working against me is time. I hope to have three fin frames created this weekend so that I may start the skinning process on Tues of next week, allowing for adequate drying and finishing times. I hope that my demo fins tells me some solutions to the outdoor dilemma, but if worst comes to worst I will have 3 cool looking temporary fins.
